A Covenant with the People
Fellow Tanzanians, sons and daughters of the soil, heirs of our ancestors of this great nation,
On 29 October 2025, the regime of Samia Suluhu Hassan and the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) crossed a line that
can never be uncrossed. What was meant to be an election became a coronation bought with the blood of our
brothers and sisters. Hundreds – perhaps thousands – lie in unmarked graves, morgues overflow, and mothers
still search for children who will never come home.
The internet was silenced, the streets were turned into killing fields, and the world was told lies about
“isolated incidents.” We, the survivors, the witnesses, the youth who refused to be slaves in our own
country, the elders who remember never tasted freedom, the soldiers who refused to shoot their own people,
and the
millions in the diaspora who carry Tanzania in their hearts, declare:
- The 2025 elections are null and void.
No election that begins by disqualifying the people’s candidates, stuffing ballots before dawn, and
shooting voters who dare complain can be called legitimate. Samia Suluhu Hassan is not our president;
she is the occupant of a stolen seat.
- The massacre of October–November 2025 is a crime against humanity.
Live bullets were fired into unarmed crowds. Bodies were hidden. Families were denied burial rights. We
demand an independent international commission – not a CCM whitewash – to identify every victim, every
killer, and every order-giver from the highest office down.
- CCM’s monopoly must end.
For sixty years, one party has worn the mask of many. It has used the state, the army, the police, the
courts, and the treasury as its private tools. Tanzania shall never again be a one-party state in
practice while pretending
to be a democracy on paper.
- A new People’s Constitution is non-negotiable.
The 1977 Constitution, repeatedly patched to protect incumbents, must be scrapped. We demand a sovereign
National Conference with equal representation from all regions, faiths, generations, and political
families to write a constitution that guarantees:
- An independent electoral commission
- Term limits that cannot be amended away
- Federal powers for Tanganyika and Zanzibar
- Protection of civic space and freedom of assembly
- Separation of power with checks and balances
- The right to recall corrupt or murderous leaders
- Justice or no peace.
While the youth die unemployed, CCM leaders build palaces. While farmers toil, party cartels control
cashews, gold, and ports. The wealth of Tanzania belongs to Tanzanians – not to a tiny elite and their
foreign partners.
Our Method: The Power of a United People
We choose the path of disciplined, non-violent mass action – because violence is what the regime wants;
it is the only language it understands and the only excuse it needs.
- We will boycott every institution that legitimises this regime until our demands are met.
- We will fill the streets again when the time is right, in numbers too large to shoot.
- We will protect one another with our bodies and our cameras.
- Should the regime escalate to genocide, the people retain the inherent right – recognised by the UN
Charter to defend themselves by any means necessary.
Our Promise
This is not a coup. This is not tribalism. This is not religionism. This is not foreign interference. This is
the second uhuru – the true liberation that our parents were denied when flags changed but chains remained.
Every drop of blood spilled in October 2025 is a seed. From that blood will grow a new Tanzania: free,
just, and truly democratic.
Until victory – or until we join our martyrs.
Signed in the name of every unnamed hero and heroine of October 2025,
Movement for Liberation of Tanganyika (MOLITA)
Our Blood is the Seed of Freedom
